One always feels nervous each time a new map is delivered to the critical Orienteering runners.

Orienteering map making is very complex and, at the same time, very subjective.
Two mappers won’t draw the same forest in the same way. However, both must comply with IOF rulles.
During May we delivered 2 new maps (and courses) to the O-community, “Moreira – Pena Verde” and “Barragem Carvalhal do Eiro”. In adition, we also prepeared the courses.
This maps were used on an initiative called “Alone in the forest”, where runners would drive to the parking place and follow arrows to start. There, they would find a box with Clear unit and maps. At the finish, we used a special SI unit to collect results. This way we offered top Orienteering terrain and courses, with SI timing, but with zero human interaction – COVID-19 safe initiative!

We hope all the runners enjoyed the map making, knowing from the start that only the most experienced runners can smoothly manage such complex terrains.
